STUDENT
ACTIVITIES
Our
varied student activities include Gaga, Art, Band,
Guitar, Radio Station, Israeli
Dance, and more.
GaGa

GaGa
is a form of Israeli dodge ball which many of our students are
familiar
with from their summer camps. GaGa is great for ages
7 though 17. Not only is this a fun way for children to play together
on different age levels but it is a game that I’ve seen used
to help make teaching more fun and engaging. Hebrew teachers will
sometimes have their students read a word to get into the game;
once they get out, in order to get back in they need to read another
Hebrew word.
As a Hebrew school, we are challenged with making learning fun,
energetic and captivating and this is definitely a tool that will
help us with this.
Radio Station

At LBT Religious School, one of the ways in which we teach about
Judaism is through modern Jewish music via the vehicle of a Religious
School Radio Station. Leo Baeck Radio is a fun and engaging way
for students to learn about old and new Jewish music as well as
keep up to date with Jewish news from around the world. Students
from grades 3 through 7 will have opportunities to broadcast on
live radio to students in other classrooms (at the start of school)
and to parents who are in their cars during carpool (at the start
or end of school). Students write scripts for newscasts, commercials,
public service announcements, weather reports and movie reviews,
while at the same time improving their diction and speaking skills.
Guitar/Band
The
students learn popular Jewish music and create their own songs
during band. Students bring in their own instruments from home
or use the guitars and drums that the school provides. Students
also have the opportunity to learn how to play the guitar.
SHIRA
(Music)
Music
is an integral part of Jewish life. The music program concentrates
on Shabbat liturgical responses and holiday songs as well as children's
music.
OMANUT
(Art)

Classes participate in an arts and crafts program designed by their teacher and the art teacher in our well-stocked and creative art room. The projects will focus on the topics they are studying and upcoming holidays. |
RIKUDEY AM (Folk Dance)
Classes
will participate with our highly-trained Israeli Dance specialist
to learn folk dances from Israel. This will give the
students an opportunity to move around and connect to Judaism and
Israel on a new level.
MISCHAKIM (Games)

We
will be experimenting with a new program involving sports
and low ropes course games to build community, teach Hebrew
vocabulary and Jewish values. This program will include
games with balls, hoops, and other trust games. |
YOUTH
GROUPS
Youth
groups for grades 4-8 and grades 9-12 provide young people
with opportunities to participate in social, educational, religious,
cultural and social action programs. Both groups have monthly
events. The younger group is responsible for the annual temple
Purim Carnival. The senior group, LBRTY (Leo Baeck Reform Temple
Youth), is actively involved in regional NFTY (National
Federation of Temple Youth) activities, in addition to grooming
temple leaders.
