Jewish Movie Night (Nicky’s Family)

July 26, 2016, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Leo Baeck Temple
1300 North Sepulveda Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90049

This month’s feature, Nicky’s Family, tells the nearly forgotten story of Sir Nicholas Winton, a young English stockbroker who organized the safe passage of 669 Czech and Slovak children to England just before the outbreak of World War II. The descendants of the children Winton saved now number over 6,000 people, many of whom have gone on to achieve great things themselves; award-winning journalist Joe Schlesinger (featured) was saved by Winton as a child. Members of Nicky’s Family are not only those who owe their lives to him but also all those who are motivated to do something positive for our world – as Producers Matej Mináč and Patrik Pass illustrate through highlighting how Winton’s efforts in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia have inspired global humanitarian and philanthropic efforts including  projects in Cambodia and Africa.
