In our services we hope to strengthen the
experience of prayer in our synagogue. We draw upon traditional Hebrew
prayers, the Torah, and upon poetry and prayers of exemplary men and women of
more recent times. We use both music and silence to help us connect with
the deeper parts of ourselves. We are trying to find our way to a liturgy
which has, like our sanctuary, the virtues of simplicity and directness.
At Leo Baeck Temple, our services strive to be
truthful, to be authentic to ourselves and to our values as a group, individuals
who come to synagogue connected by a myriad spiritual longings. Our
mode of prayer joins us as a community with that which ennobles us and comforts
us. Our worship together allows us to extract some measure of inspiration
from the glimpses of Godliness we see in our one and only human race.
Worship in the complete sense is sometimes
difficult for us Jews, but the fruits of real worship are worth a patient
search. That is why we periodically reexamine and revise our services at
Leo Baeck Temple.
Worship services are usually held in our sanctuary. Summertime Shabbat Under the Stars is held in our outdoor
chapel. We also have a monthly family Shabbat service geared toward
families with children, and a monthly Sabbath-in-Song Service which has
a special emphasis on the music of Shabbat.
